Build beneath the depths of an active volcano, Dr. Inferno meticulously designed and constructed a giant robot of destruction that the Lego World has never seen before. Armed with a hydraulic claw that can bend even the toughest steel, a flamer than can melt even the most fire-resistance of materials and armor made of the toughest materials available, this giant robot is now finally complete!

Dr. Inferno is no stranger to chaos. In fact, he dreams of destroying Lego City with his brand new creation!!

Can the agents stop him this time?

    Set Name: Robo Attack
    Set Number: 8970
    Theme: Agents 2.0
Number of parts: 414 (from Brickset)
    Year released:2009

    The box

The box is a square box with a giant picture of Dr. Inferno causing mayhem in the streets. Like all bad guys, he has captured a hostage!

The back shows the agents successfully disabled his robot and other features of this set

The list of minifigures in this set: 3 unnamed tourist, Agent Chase, Agent Trace and Dr. Inferno.

    The instruction manual

The front page is similar to the box. There is only 1 instruction booklet.

The instructions to activate and replace the battery in the light brick

A random page showing how to build the claw

    Sticker Sheet

Below is the sticker sheet used in this set

    Set Contents

There are 4 numbered bags in this set.

    The build process

The build is straightforward and easy to follow. It starts with bag 1 which containes the minifigures and small vehicles. First we start with Dr. Inferno's flying scooter...

...followed by Agent Chase's Quad Bike...

... and Agent Trace's mini jet.

After that in Bag 2, we proceed to build the hip section...

    ... followed by the legs...

    ...and by the feet.

In bag 3 we will do the torso area.

Lastly in bag 4 we do the left hand...

... followed by the right hand.

    Minifigures

We get 6 minifigures in this set; 3 unlucky tourist, Agent Chase, Agent Trace and Dr. Inferno himself. The star of this set is none other than the 3 jolly tourist who seems to be having a good time...

... only to have them scream in fear when Dr. Inferno shows up!

The accessories we get with this set is the camera and also 2 pistols

    The completed Quad Bike

The quad bike is simply a bike with 4 wheels and 1 rope with a hook. The rope is long (1m I think) and the hook can be used for other purposes (such as an anchor for a boat).

    The Agents Mini Jet

Agent Trace gets a small mini jet fighter with 2 jet engines at the rear. It is equipped with flick-fire missiles on either side that does not fall off (unlike my Sith Infiltrator, forever falling off!). Although simple in design it is extremely swoosh-able.

    Dr Inferno's Robot Of Death

Once completed, you can fully appreciate just how good this robot is. It can be posed in various poses and remain stable due to its friction grip joins.

On its left arm there is a metal colored claw of death which is large enough to grab an unfortunate agent/tourist. The arm can spin 360 degrees.

The right arm have a red LED light brick that lights up the robot's flamer when pressed. The arm has a sticker to show its setting. A translucent flame piece shows how large the flame is emitted from the flamer!

The flame piece glows brightly when the light brick is activated!

The cockpit of the robot is typical of any supervillain's control room; it is full of dials and switches!! Apparently only Dr. Inferno knows how to operated this thing. All the dials are printed pieces except for the forward screen.

A closer look at the front torso of the robot. A large sticker shows Dr. Inferno's logo. The 2 slope vent pieces can easily fall out due to play. I had to insert that piece back a couple of times while posing this robot for this review.

The rear of the robot is not as exciting as the front, but most of the time we will see the robot from the front anyway.

To continue in the next post!

    Robo Attacks!

It was a typical day at Lego City. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, the construction team is building another Fire Station and some tourist are snapping away.
Tourist 1: Smile! Both of you look lovely as a couple!
    Tourist 2 & 3Smiley

Tourist 1: Gee, why the sudden change of face? ... Oh man not again, those darn rain clouds are here again! First sunny now cloudy!  Angry

Tourist 1: WHAT THE F@@#! WHAT THE H%%@ IS THAT THING!!

Dr. Inferno: IT'S ME, DR. INFERNO! and I shall enjoy laying waste to your lovely city! Ahhh I just love scared Legomen running around with their scared faces on!

Dr. Inferno: It's even better when you can grab 1 of them and lift them in the air! Yes, yes YES!!! SCREAM BABY!

Alerted to the distress call, Agent Trace races to the scene in her mini jet to see what is going on. Try as she might the robot is proving too tough for her to attack alone.

Trace: All agents! I have a big-ass Robot of death here! I need more than my little jet to bring him down!
Chase: I'm on my way in my quad. Keep him distracted so that I may disable him ala-Empire-Strikes-Back!
Charge: I just took off with the ADU. Like Chase said, keep him busy!
Trace: Hurry up! His aim is getting better!

Chase: Now to throw a hook onto his legs...

Chase: ... drive around him like mad to entangle the legs...

Chase: ... and down the giant goes!! Wink Now to pop open the hatch and arrest his vile villain!

Chase: Errr.... that's not what I think it should happen  Shocked
Inferno: Surprised? Grin I watched the Empire Strikes Back too! You think your simple tie rope can stop me?! The mayhem just started!

Dr. Inferno: That's right Chase, RUN!!! Boy I am loving it!
    Chase: F@@@! F###! F%%%! I am soo dead!!

Dr. Inferno: Letting him run is so boring! Why not grab him and grille him alive!!
    Chase: F@#!$!@$@!$@!#@!

Dr. Inferno: Ah Agent Chase. It's ironic that the 'chase' has finally got to you. Your puny little pop-gun won't help against my bullet-proof glass dome, nothing will!
    Chase: I'm SCREWED!!!!!

Dr. Inferno: It's even sadder your friends is not here to help you. Any last words?
    Chase: F@@# YOU!

Dr. Inferno: As a major charactor for a famous toyline you seem so say such terrible words. What wonders can desperation make some people say! Maybe since this is a mostly AFOL site such words are allowed.
    Chase: Look! Behind you!
Dr. Inferno: Oh please Chase, I am not going to fall for that trick. It's the oldest one in history!
Charge: Maybe you SHOULD look behind Inferno!

    BOOM!

Dr. Inferno: I have been ... defeated! Darn you agents! What's this? The Agents are cloning themselves!?!? I am seeing things? How come there are 2 Chases?
Chase 2: I'm from the ADU set. I am a major charactor you know.  Wink
Chase: Now it's your turn to scream for mercy Inferno! Please help youself with your hands up to your cell in the mobile command center.

Dr. Inferno: With great pleasure!! But instead I will go back home instead! Bye bye!
Chase: Aww crap not again! This guy is getting too smart!

Dr. Inferno: The best villains always have an escape plan! Wink

    Conclusion

Design: 10/10 Lego always havae robots, but there are mostly confine to the space theme and does not do much except maybe walk from one point of another. This robot on the other hand, have all the trademarks of a highly destructive robot of destruction with a cool villain to boot!

Parts: 10/10 This set is an amazing source of parts to make other more destructive robots of death! The joints are very very useful for mech MOCS and the large dome can make a good submarine front window.

Minifigures: 9/10 The agents minifigures are quite normal, but the civilian one are great; especially the one with the sunglasses and Hawaiian shirt. All have a scared face behind, ready to scream in fear should the need arises.

Playability: 10/10 Lego sets usually does not condone acts of violence, so to see such a set with a rampaging robot with a flamer is AWESOME! You can have the entire agent battalion battle this bad boy out or go up against your clone/droid troopers! It is also an added plus that the robot is highly pose-able and is stable.

Price: 8/10 It is RM 250 for roughly 440+ parts, but IHMO it is quite cheap and worth it since it has a very good play value. Now all police sets have something to fight with!

Conclusion: 10/10 Get this set. Really, it's that good! The maniacal smile on Dr. Inferno shows he is having a gala time wrecking havoc to Lego City. No wonder TLG included a new fire set this year, the fire dept could not keep up to all the buildings he set aflame!
