    Hi Admin & Bobby,

It is indeed complicated Cry I only managed to assemble and test the motorized excavator during my off-work time for the past 1 month.
    Averagely 2 hours daily Undecided

At first, it was quite head cracking but yet challenging Embarrassed

Post#5 - Prototype version of the motorized excavator

As mentioned in the earlier post, prior to this Motorized Excavator, there have been two unsuccessful prototypes.
These prototypes utilize only single battery box and power are transmitted through the turntable using complex gearing.

TECHNIC Gear 24 Tooth Clutch (part 60c01) [as shown in picture] often used together with PF motors. Clutch is used to prevent the PF motors from overloading.

Building a large and heavy motorized MOC LEGO Technic model requires appropriate torque balance between the motors and loads.
Often clutch slips when the load is too heavy. Hence, the “Twin-clutching” technique is applied.

Clutched gear has the maximum torque limit of 5 Ncm. Applying 2 clutches on the same shaft will result in 10 Ncm torque limit. Note that any number of clutches can be applied to the same shaft as long as does not exceed the torque limit of the driving motor.

The XL motor delivers a maximum torque of 40 Ncm which means applying 10 Ncm twin-clutching only uses 25% of the maximum torque of the XL motor. (Can be expandable up to 8 clutches assembly)

The same formula applies to the M motor. The M motor delivers a maximum torque of 12 Ncm. Applying 10 Ncm twin-clutching will use 83% of the maximum torque of the M motor.
