I must say, this is one of the slightly more complicated sets.  Undecided

    Details:
    Price: RM989.90
    Pieces: 1877
    Minifigs: 0
    Year released: 2009

    Box art:

Pretty sturdy box. Although I tossed it in the trunk of my car. Hardly a dent. One more thing, batteries NOT included. You would need 6 AA batteries for this one.

Like most large sets, it has a flap to open up

Back of the box contains another model. The instructions are not available though, but dowloadeable from the internet at www.lego.com/technic. Save the trees? Since most of the people USUALLY would not take it apart after building.  Tongue

    Crane Truck

    Front View

Absolutely GARANG. No doubt there are a number of stickers involved, but heck, they look great! Just have to be extra cautious when applying them. My only gripe is that there is no windsreen and side window glass. Perhaps a windscreen wiper (moveable one) would add more detail? Lot of room in the driver area. Unfortunately, the doors don't open.

    Side View

More to come later tonight.  I have invited a special guess to be a judge of this set. Stay tuned!  Grin

    Captain hook would envy this

The cab can be flipped open to reveal the engine.

The v8 engine has cylinders actually moves in and out alternately if the truck is pushed.

Just a sense of scale... The crane is powered by the XL motor, and able to rotate 360 degrees.
The stoppers are also powered by the motor and can be deployed automatically, but not fully.

As you can see, the battery box is well hidden behind the cab

    PROS:
    a) HUGE. I really mean HUGE.
    b) Large number of parts and pieces
    c) Very simple to use power functions features
    d) Very appealing to look at
    e) Intricate gearing system, lots of contruction techniques to learn (especially from a non technic guy like myself Tongue)

    CONS:
    a) At times, can be pretty daunting to put together. Time consuming.
    b) Doors don't open Sad
    c) No RC functions. I had this impression this truck would MOVE. But the wheels only turn corresponding to the steering wheel. Nothing more.
    d) 6 batteries required.

    FINAL VERDICT!

    I'll let the judge decide:

Admin: Mr. Judge,  out of these 5 red objects, please choose the most intersting one.

Judge: Hmm... Its pretty obvious. Can you put few more sets here, please?

    Admin: OK
Judge: OK... I'll pick two out of the lot.

Guys... I guess it is OBVIOUS?

I'll not put ratings for this set since I am starwars biased.  Am actually quite upset with the judge for picking the truck! Maybe no milk for him for the next 3 hours Tongue

Great review! The pictures are clear and bright! Did you take the picture of it outdoors? Grin

Also, you child is so lucky! Even at a very young age straightaway jump to Lego City/Star Wars and Technics. Cheesy How old is he?
